In Ankara, the Post and Telegraph Organization (PTT) General Directorate, in cooperation with the Turkish Philatelic Associations Federation (TFDF), has inaugurated the ‘PTT 185 Years Old Stamp Exhibition’. The exhibition, held at the PTT Stamp Museum, marks a significant milestone for the organization.

Opening Ceremony and Distinguished Guests

The opening ceremony was attended by PTT General Manager Hakan Gülten, TFDF President Ziya Ağaoğulları, and PTT personnel. The exhibition proudly displays stamp collections that have received awards in both national and international competitions, highlighting the rich history of philately in Turkey.

PTT General Manager Hakan Gülten’s Address

PTT General Manager Hakan Gülten stated that the exhibition was prepared as part of the institution’s 185th anniversary celebrations. “In our museum, which features thousands of stamps issued from the late Ottoman Empire to the present day, alongside works that showcase the journey of our postal services through time; we are delighted to bring together valuable collections prepared by our philatelists over years of effort, which have been awarded gold medals in national and international competitions, with our citizens through our exhibition,” Gülten remarked, emphasizing the cultural and historical significance of the event.

Stamps as Cultural Ambassadors

Gülten further elaborated on the profound meaning behind each stamp, describing them as works of art that depict the era they belong to. “Each stamp is a work of art that depicts the period it belongs to, and each collection is a valuable document that reveals the past and cultural heritage of a nation. Stamps are silent ambassadors that tell the history, nature, heroes, and values of a country,” he said. He underscored PTT’s commitment to preserving history, culture, and values through its extensive range of services, both domestically and internationally. “Our philately service, at this point, is one of the leading areas that most strongly reflects PTT’s institutional memory, national identity, and cultural mission.”

The Role of Philatelists

Gülten also paid tribute to the dedicated philatelists, stating, “Today, in a manner befitting our 185th anniversary, we once again make visible the artistic and historical value of philately. Our philatelists, who patiently reveal the richness behind a stamp and carefully carry elements of our culture and history into the future, are valuable pioneers in this field.”

Exhibition Details and Future Outlook

The exhibition provides a unique opportunity for visitors to delve into the fascinating world of stamps, offering a chronological journey through Turkey’s postal history. It serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of PTT and its contribution to the nation’s cultural heritage. This event not only celebrates PTT’s long-standing service but also aims to foster a greater appreciation for philately among the public.
