Explosive Attack on Business in Şile Amidst Debt Threats
A shocking incident in Şile saw a business targeted with an explosive device, following a series of escalating threats directed at the owner, Naim G., over his estranged son’s alleged debt. The attack, which occurred on November 29, 2024, at approximately 03:00 AM in Ağva Mahallesi, has raised serious concerns about the nature of debt collection and the safety of individuals caught in such disputes.
The Genesis of the Conflict: A Failed Partnership and Unpaid Debts
The roots of this alarming event trace back several years to a failed business partnership between Naim G.’s son, Necat G., and Mahmut E. According to reports, the duo embarked on a commercial venture that ultimately collapsed, leading to significant financial losses for both parties and fostering a deep-seated animosity. Mahmut E. subsequently claimed that Necat G. owed him money and allegedly instructed others to collect the debt.
Unable to locate Necat G., two individuals approached his father, Naim G., at his workplace in Ağva. During this initial confrontation, Naim G. asserted that he had not been in contact with his son for approximately 10 years and therefore, his son’s debts were not his responsibility. This statement reportedly angered the two individuals, leading to a heated argument captured by security cameras. The suspects allegedly threatened Naim G., stating, ‘We will handle this in another way,’ before leaving the premises.
Escalating Threats: “We Will Blow You Up”
The situation took a sinister turn 14 days after the initial confrontation. Naim G. began receiving calls from international numbers, with unidentified individuals allegedly threatening him with phrases such as, ‘We will bury your son, we will throw dirt on him, why aren’t you paying your son’s debt?’ Naim G. reiterated his stance, emphasizing his long-standing estrangement from his son and his lack of responsibility for his son’s personal debts.
On the same day, the threats intensified through messaging applications. Naim G. received a chilling message: ‘Even the police you trust won’t be able to save you, we will blow you up.’ This direct and alarming threat foreshadowed the subsequent attack.
The Explosive Attack: Damage and Fear
Following these ominous messages, an unidentified suspect arrived at Naim G.’s workplace during the night and detonated an explosive device. The blast shattered the business’s windows and damaged its contents. A small fire that erupted inside was quickly extinguished. Security camera footage captured the moment of the explosion and the suspect’s subsequent escape. Naim G. has since filed a complaint, prompting an investigation by gendarmerie teams.
Necat G.’s Account: A Family Under Duress
Necat G., the son at the center of the debt dispute, spoke out about the ordeal, confirming the failed business venture with Mahmut E. in 2022. He stated that the problems began approximately three to four months prior to the attack, when Mahmut E. allegedly started telling others that Necat G. was responsible for the financial losses. Necat G. described receiving threats from an individual named Ertan E., who allegedly said, ‘You have a debt, why aren’t you paying it? We will do this and that to you.’
Necat G. further revealed that his wife was accosted on the street, and his family, including his father and brother, became targets of intimidation. He recounted an incident where Ertan E.’s brother visited his father’s workplace, threatening, ‘We will kill you, we will kill your child.’ He also mentioned receiving abusive messages directed at his family.
Regarding the explosive attack, Necat G. stated, ‘They say, ‘We will blow up your shop, we will put a bomb.’ At night, they throw an explosive device at the shop. They are causing unrest, which is not a situation with my father or brother. They are completely resorting to this method to extort money.’ He confirmed reporting the incidents to the prosecutor’s office.
Even after the explosion, the threats continued, with messages like, ‘Now it’s your house, your car, we will kill your son.’ Necat G. expressed grave concerns for his family’s safety, stating, ‘Our lives are in danger; our lives are at risk. I’m past caring about myself, my family is in danger. My wife and children have already had to go abroad. My family is still being threatened. I am being threatened. I assume justice will do what is necessary. The police, the gendarmerie will do what is necessary.’
The Investigative Path Forward
The gendarmerie teams have launched a comprehensive investigation into the explosive attack and the preceding threats. This includes analyzing security footage, interviewing witnesses, and examining the evidence collected at the scene. The case highlights the dangerous consequences of unresolved financial disputes and the lengths to which some individuals may go to collect perceived debts. The focus of the investigation will be on identifying the perpetrators, understanding the full extent of their actions, and bringing them to justice, while also ensuring the safety of Naim G. and his family.
The incident in Şile serves as a stark reminder of the need for robust legal frameworks and effective law enforcement to protect citizens from such acts of violence and intimidation, especially when personal disputes spill over into criminal acts.
