Istanbul, December 22 – A devastating head-on collision between a motorcycle and a car in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, yesterday evening has claimed the lives of two high school students, Jiyan Ulus and Muhammet Seçgin. The driver of the passenger vehicle involved in the accident has been taken into custody.

Tragic Accident Claims Young Lives in Celaliye

The incident occurred on Cumhuriyet Street in the Celaliye neighborhood of Büyükçekmece. According to preliminary information, the motorcycle, operated by 17-year-old Jiyan Ulus, collided frontally with a passenger car traveling from the opposite direction.

Following the impact, both Ulus and his passenger, 17-year-old Muhammet Seçgin, were thrown from the motorcycle. Eyewitnesses immediately alerted medical and police authorities. Jiyan Ulus was pronounced dead at the scene, while Muhammet Seçgin, despite being transported to a hospital, succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement officials as part of the ongoing investigation into the fatal crash.

Eyewitness Account Highlights Road Safety Concerns

Canan Dağlı, a local resident who witnessed the aftermath of the accident, expressed her distress and raised concerns about road safety in the area. “They were coming from opposite directions. The person who died at the scene showed no reaction. The other was breathing but in a very bad state. I don’t know why. They might have slipped. There is no speed bump here, I have asked for one. Precautions must be taken. This is a school area; children go to school here,” Dağlı stated.

Victims Identified as High School Students

Authorities have confirmed that both victims were high school students. Jiyan Ulus, who tragically died at the scene, was a 12th-grade student at a vocational high school. Muhammet Seçgin, who passed away in the hospital, was an 11th-grade student.

The community is in shock following the loss of two young lives, and the incident has reignited discussions regarding road safety measures, particularly in areas frequented by students and pedestrians.

Investigations into the exact cause of the collision are ongoing, with police examining all aspects of the accident to determine culpability and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
