Minister Kacır Encourages Students to Explore Science at TÜBİTAK Centers
Ankara, January 18 – Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, extended an invitation to students currently on mid-term break to visit the Türkiye Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBİTAK) Science Centers. The Minister made the announcement via his social media account, quoting a TÜBİTAK post and stating, “TÜBİTAK Science Centers have prepared wonderful programs for children and young people during the mid-term break. We are waiting for you.”
‘Winter Academies’ Offer Diverse Scientific Exploration
The ‘Winter Academies’ are set to commence on January 20 across 36 science centers nationwide. These comprehensive programs are designed to engage children and young people in various fields of science, including physics, biology, mathematics, astronomy, space, and technology. The academies will feature a range of educational activities, family-participatory workshops, and special events tailored to different age groups.
Hands-On Learning for Children Aged Six and Above
Children aged six and over will have the opportunity to experience science through interactive applications. These include activities ranging from forensic detective work and mini-hologram studios to jet race workshops and explorations of force and motion. This hands-on approach aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for scientific principles.
Science Camps for High School Students and Teachers
In addition to programs for younger children, the ‘Winter Academies’ will also bring together high school students and teachers for dedicated science camps. These camps will focus on specialized topics, with a particular emphasis on artificial intelligence in Antalya, astronomy in Manisa, and theoretical physics in Malatya. These advanced camps are designed to provide in-depth learning experiences and encourage further academic pursuit in these critical scientific areas.
TÜBİTAK’s Commitment to Accessible Science
TÜBİTAK is also committed to making science accessible to everyone, including individuals with special needs. The organization aims to achieve this through various projects and science festivals specifically designed to cater to their unique requirements, ensuring that the wonders of science are available to all members of society.
Educational Resources During the Break
Throughout the mid-term break, students will receive special supplements of the popular TÜBİTAK publications, “Bilim Çocuk” (Science Child) and “Meraklı Minik” (Curious Little One) magazines. These resources will complement the academy programs and provide additional engaging content to keep young minds stimulated and curious about the world of science.
Nationwide Reach of TÜBİTAK Science Centers
The widespread nature of the ‘Winter Academies’ across 36 science centers underscores TÜBİTAK’s dedication to promoting scientific literacy and engagement throughout Turkey. By offering diverse and accessible programs, TÜBİTAK aims to inspire the next generation of scientists, innovators, and critical thinkers, contributing to the nation’s scientific and technological advancement.
The initiative reflects the government’s broader strategy to invest in education and foster a culture of scientific inquiry from an early age. The programs are expected to attract a significant number of participants, providing a valuable and enriching experience for students during their mid-term holiday.
