Turkish Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş: ‘Terror-Free Turkey’ Ideal Will Succeed Despite Obstacles
Ankara, January 21 – Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, received a Yazidi delegation today. During the meeting, Kurtulmuş declared, “The ideal of a terror-free Turkey is focused on success and will succeed, despite all negativities and those who want to drag this issue into the wrong direction.”
Speaker Kurtulmuş welcomed the Yazidi delegation, accompanied by AK Party Batman Deputy Ferhat Nasıroğlu, AK Party Bingöl Deputy Zeki Korkutata, and Midyat Mayor Veysi Şahin, in the Grand National Assembly’s Presidential Council Meeting Hall. Kurtulmuş emphasized the importance of efforts to resolve the demands of the Yazidis and stated that Turkey’s embrace of diverse ethnic, sectarian, religious, cultural, and linguistic groups is a great asset. He underlined the need to ensure cultural unity among regional countries and eliminate differences.
Condemnation of Shingal Massacre and Imperialist Interference
Kurtulmuş vehemently condemned the massacre and inhumane acts against Yazidis in Shingal, stating, “They had the Shingal massacre carried out by an organization called Daesh. Who provided the weapons to that organization? They then established another organization, PYD/YPG, against it. That organization also had many weapons; who provided them? All of them are connected to the godfathers of imperialism. They do not directly intervene in this geography; instead, they use proxies to achieve outcomes that pit people against each other.”
Kurtulmuş affirmed that they would follow up on the demands of Yazidis living both in Turkey and abroad. He added, “As the Parliament Speakership, we will do whatever is necessary. This is also in line with the spirit of this period. Thus, we will present a Turkey that no one can exploit.”
Yazidi Demands Presented to Parliament
During the meeting, AK Party Batman Deputy Ferhat Nasıroğlu provided information on the efforts made to resolve the issues raised by Yazidis, mentioning programs conducted with Yazidis both domestically and internationally. Orhan Onat, President of the Germany Yazidi Unity and Solidarity Committee, highlighted the importance of dialogues developed during the ‘terror-free Turkey’ process. He explained that Yazidis had come together to hold meetings and reach common views to contribute to the process. Onat then reiterated that they had once again witnessed the loyalty of Yazidis to their country and presented a file containing their views and demands to Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş.
