Istanbul, January 29 – A hawker in the Fatih district of Istanbul allegedly assaulted a Chinese tourist yesterday, leading to the hawker’s apprehension by police. The incident, which occurred on Mahmutpaşa Street, has resulted in legal proceedings against the suspect for ‘intentional injury’.
Hawker-Tourist Altercation Leads to Assault
The incident took place around 5:15 PM yesterday on Mahmutpaşa Street. According to initial reports, F.B., a 19-year-old hawker operating on the street, became embroiled in an argument with a tourist, identified as Chinese. The disagreement quickly escalated, culminating in F.B. physically assaulting the tourist.
Bystanders reportedly intervened to break up the altercation, which involved punches. Police were immediately dispatched to the scene following an alert. Officers quickly apprehended F.B., who was then taken into custody.
Investigation Underway, Suspect Charged
Following his arrest, F.B. has been charged with ‘intentional injury’. The exact cause of the initial argument between the hawker and the tourist remains unclear and is currently under investigation by law enforcement authorities. Security camera footage of the incident has been secured by the police as part of their inquiry.
