Istanbul, January 30 – A powerful storm that swept through Istanbul yesterday evening caused significant damage in several districts, including Beylikdüzü and Ataşehir. The strong winds led to the detachment of a 15-story building’s facade and the uprooting of a tree, which subsequently fell on parked cars and a business. Fortunately, no one was injured in these incidents.

Facade Detaches from 15-Story Building in Beylikdüzü

The storm, which intensified around 9:30 PM yesterday, January 29, 2026, caused the facade of a 15-story building on Bestekar Street in Beylikdüzü’s Barış Neighborhood to detach. Large pieces of the facade fell onto parked cars below, causing damage. Local residents promptly reported the incident to emergency services.

Fire and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters worked to clear the detached pieces from the street. An investigation into the extent of the damage to the building and parked vehicles is underway. The incident highlighted the potential dangers of extreme weather conditions in urban areas.

Tree Falls in Ataşehir, Damages Car and Workplace

Concurrently, in Ataşehir’s Yenişehir Neighborhood, on Baraj Yolu Street, a tree was uprooted by the storm, falling onto a parked car and a nearby workplace, also around 9:30 PM. Emergency services, including fire crews, were immediately called to the location.

Firefighters successfully removed the fallen tree, and the road was subsequently reopened to traffic. Both the parked car and the workplace sustained damage as a result of the incident. The local authorities are assessing the damage and will provide support to those affected.

No Injuries Reported, Cleanup Efforts Underway

Despite the significant material damage caused by the storm, authorities confirmed that there were no injuries in either incident. Emergency teams, including fire and police personnel, carried out cleanup operations throughout the night and into the early morning.

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during severe weather conditions. The incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining building facades and ensuring the stability of trees in urban environments, especially in areas prone to strong winds.

Further investigations will be conducted to determine the exact causes of the facade detachment and tree fall, and to implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The city’s weather bureau had issued warnings about the approaching storm, advising citizens to be prepared for adverse conditions.

The cleanup efforts are expected to continue today, January 30, with teams working to fully restore affected areas and ensure public safety. Local authorities are also encouraging residents to report any further damage or hazardous situations caused by the storm.
