Ankara, February 20 – A significant overhaul has taken place within the Turkish Justice and Interior Ministries following a presidential decree. This major reshuffle comes on the heels of recent cabinet changes, leading to a complete renewal of personnel in both key ministries. Amidst these extensive changes, Bülent Turan, a prominent political figure from Çanakkale, has successfully maintained his position.

Extensive Changes in the Ministry of Interior

In the Ministry of Interior, a substantial clean-up was executed within Minister Mustafa Çiftçi’s team. Deputy Ministers Münir Karaloğlu, Mehmet Sağlam, and Mehmet Aktaş were relieved of their duties. Their replacements are Ali Çelik, the Governor of Hakkari; Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı, the Governor of Afyonkarahisar; and Mehmet Cangir.

Bülent Turan Reaffirms Confidence

Despite the comprehensive operation within the ministry, Bülent Turan, former AK Party Group Deputy Chairman and Çanakkale Deputy, stands as the sole individual to retain his position. His retention, in contrast to the three dismissed deputies, is interpreted in Ankara and Çanakkale political circles as a continued vote of confidence in the experienced politician.

Complete Overhaul in the Ministry of Justice

The Ministry of Justice also saw a complete change of deputies under Minister Akın Gürlek. Ramazan Can, Hurşit Yıldırım, Mehmet Yılmaz, and Niyazi Acar were dismissed, with Abdullah Aydoğdu, Burak Ceyhan, Can Tuncay, and Sedat Ayyıldız appointed in their stead.

Gubernatorial Decree: Who Left, Who Arrived?

The decree also brought changes to the governorships of five provinces, with new assignments for those relieved of their duties:

  • Erzurum: Aydın Baruş, Governor of Gümüşhane, was appointed to the position left vacant by Mustafa Çiftçi becoming Minister.
  • Afyonkarahisar: Naci Aktaş, Governor of Uşak, was appointed to replace Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı, who became Deputy Minister.
  • Hakkari: İbrahim Taşyapan, General Director of Population and Citizenship Affairs, was appointed to replace Ali Çelik, who became Deputy Minister.
  • Uşak: Serdar Kartal, Head of the Support Services Department, was appointed to the vacant position after Naci Aktaş’s transfer to Afyon.
  • Gümüşhane: Cevdet Atay, Governor-Chief Civil Inspector, was appointed to the position left vacant by Aydın Baruş’s move to Erzurum.

Changes in Foreign Affairs and Bureaucracy

The decree was not limited to ministerial changes. Barış Kalkavan, Ambassador to Montenegro; Aylin Taşhan, Ambassador to Slovenia; and Fatih Ulusoy, Ambassador to North Macedonia, were recalled to the center, and new appointments were made in their places. Additionally, Cihan Yıldız, Head of Guidance and Inspection at the Ministry of Justice, and Tahir Hırslı, Head of Strategy Development, were also dismissed from their positions, with new appointments made.
