Istanbul, February 19 – Five suspects have been formally arrested as part of an extensive drug investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office’s Bureau for Smuggling, Narcotics, and Economic Crimes. The arrests follow a series of detentions that included prominent figures from the entertainment industry.
Ongoing Investigation Leads to More Detentions
The investigation, which has been underway for some time, recently saw three more suspects taken into custody, bringing the total number of detainees to 21. Following their processing at the police department and subsequent health checks, all 21 suspects were transferred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan for questioning.
Celebrities Released, Five Suspects Arrested
During the prosecutorial questioning, several high-profile individuals were released. Among those set free were singer Kaan Tangöze, television personality Kemal Doğulu, singer Murat Dalkılıç, and actor İsmail Hacıoğlu.
However, five individuals – Barış Talay, Dilara Kırmıt, Ramazan Bayar, Tolga Kulakçı, and Tolga Sezgin – were referred to the on-duty criminal judgeship with a request for their arrest. Twelve other suspects were referred with a request for judicial control measures.
The judgeship subsequently ruled in favor of the prosecution’s request, ordering the arrest of the five aforementioned suspects. Additionally, judicial control measures were imposed on the remaining 12 suspects.
Details of the Operation
The investigation initially targeted 25 suspects, with arrest warrants issued on charges including “purchasing, accepting, or possessing drugs or stimulants for personal use, or using drugs or stimulants,” and “facilitating the use of drugs or stimulants.”
The Istanbul Police Department’s Narcotics Crimes Branch teams conducted an operation that led to the detention of several individuals. These included businessman Hakan Tunçelli, owner of the venue known as “Terzi”; singer Murat Dalkılıç; Duman band’s lead singer Kaan Tangöze; Murat Cevahiroğlu; Barış Talay; Hakan Kakız; Kemal Doğulu; Murat Öztürk, owner of the business named “Bonivex”; Muratcan Kurt and Nailcan Kurt, partners of the company “Züber”; Alihan Taşkın; Tolga Sezgin; Ramazan Bayar; Aygün Aydın; Buse Görkem Narcı; İsmail Hacıoğlu; Furkan Koçan; and former boxer Adem Kılıççı.
An arrest warrant was also issued for singer Edis Görgülü, who was found to have traveled abroad.
