Saadet Party Women’s Branches Protest at US Embassy in Ankara
Ankara, March 13 – Members of the Saadet Party Women’s Branches convened today in front of the United States Embassy in Ankara. The demonstration was held to protest a recent attack on a primary school in Iran’s Hormozgan province, an incident that led to the tragic deaths of 175 individuals, predominantly children.
Red Carnations for Child Victims
The group placed red carnations on the police barricades outside the embassy building as a tribute to the child victims. Nurgül Beytiye Ekinci, Chairwoman of the Saadet Party Women’s Branches, delivered a press statement on behalf of the group, expressing profound sorrow over the loss of life resulting from the attacks in Iran.
Ekinci voiced strong opposition to the policies she deemed responsible for the attacks. She emphasized the paramount importance of safeguarding children’s lives, asserting that their security must transcend any political considerations, regardless of geographical location.
“No Mother’s Tears Are Ordinary”
Ekinci further elaborated, stating, “We feel the pain of Iranian children as if it were the pain of our own children. We hope that these 175 carnations we leave behind will foster humanity’s conscience. A mother’s tears are never ordinary in any geography. Those tears are a trust placed upon humanity’s conscience. Oppression cannot be eternal; justice will surely prevail.”
Following the statement, the group peacefully dispersed. The protest, organized by the Saadet Party Women’s Branches, highlighted the deep concern within Turkish society regarding regional conflicts and their impact on innocent lives, especially children.
Broader Context of Regional Tensions
This demonstration occurs amidst heightened regional tensions and ongoing debates surrounding international relations and humanitarian crises. The Saadet Party, known for its conservative and Islamist political stance, frequently engages in activism on issues concerning Islamic world affairs and human rights.
The choice of the US Embassy as the protest venue underscores a perception among some groups that American foreign policy plays a significant role in the instability of the Middle East. Such protests are not uncommon in Ankara, a city that often serves as a focal point for political and social activism related to global events.
The incident in Hormozgan, as described by the Saadet Party, has resonated deeply, drawing attention to the vulnerability of civilian populations, particularly children, in conflict zones. The call for justice and the emphasis on the universal value of child safety reflect a broader sentiment among human rights advocates worldwide.
Local authorities maintained a presence to ensure the protest remained orderly, and no incidents of violence or disruption were reported. The event concluded without further developments, leaving behind the symbolic red carnations as a silent testament to the lives lost.
The Saadet Party’s statement serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost of conflict and a plea for greater international accountability and protection for those most affected by violence.
