Ankara Drug Operations: 29 Suspects Remanded in Custody
Ankara, March 17 – In a significant crackdown on drug-related crimes, law enforcement agencies in the Turkish capital have arrested 29 individuals following a week-long series of operations. A total of 87 suspects were initially detained, with 29 subsequently remanded in custody by the courts.
Extensive Operations by Narcotics Teams
According to information obtained, teams from the Ankara Police Department’s Narcotics Crimes Branch conducted operations between March 8 and March 14. These operations targeted individuals involved in the procurement and trafficking of drugs across the city.
Significant Seizure of Contraband
Searches conducted at various addresses led to the seizure of a substantial amount of illicit substances and related items. The confiscated materials include:
- 22 kilograms and 139 grams of marijuana
- 5,714 synthetic pills
- 1 kilogram and 560 grams of cannabis seeds
- 620 narcotic pills
- 278 grams of methamphetamine
- 214 grams of cocaine
- 153 grams of synthetic drugs
- 67 grams of A.M. substance
- 66 grams of heroin
- 39 grams of skunk
- 2 precision scales
- 2 handguns
- 11 handgun cartridges
- 70,620 Turkish Lira in cash
These seizures highlight the scale of the drug trafficking activities that were disrupted by the Ankara police.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Efforts
Following their apprehension, the 87 suspects underwent legal procedures. Ultimately, 29 of these individuals were formally arrested and sent to prison by the courts. The remaining suspects are likely undergoing further investigation or have been released.
