Tragic Fire in Beyoğlu Claims Life of 2-Year-Old, Two Injured
Istanbul, March 17 – A devastating fire erupted in the early hours of Monday morning, March 17, in the ground floor of a two-story building located on Ufak Köprü Street in the Sururi Mehmet Efendi neighborhood of Beyoğlu, Istanbul. The incident, which occurred around 6:00 AM, resulted in the tragic death of a two-year-old child and left two adults injured.
Emergency Services Respond to Blaze
According to reports from İhlas News Agency (İHA) and Demirören News Agency (DHA), flames and thick smoke were observed rising from the building’s ground floor. Residents in the vicinity promptly alerted emergency services. Police, health, and fire department teams were immediately dispatched to the scene following the distress calls.
Rescue Efforts and Casualties
Upon their arrival, emergency responders swiftly initiated rescue operations. Firefighters managed to rescue two individuals, including a woman, from inside the burning residence. However, despite their efforts, a two-year-old child was found trapped within the flames and tragically succumbed to injuries. The identities of the injured adults have not yet been released, but they were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Fire Extinguished, Investigation Underway
Fire crews worked quickly to bring the blaze under control. Following the containment of the fire, Crime Scene Investigation teams arrived at the location to commence a thorough examination of the burnt ground floor apartment.
The lifeless body of the two-year-old child was subsequently transported to the Forensic Medicine Institute for further examination. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the fire. At this stage, the cause remains unknown.
