Ankara’s Historical Memory Captured on Canvas in “Başkent Ankara” Exhibition
Ankara, March 19 – The historical accumulation and cultural memory of Ankara, the capital of the Republic, have been transferred to canvas by artists and presented to art lovers. Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy visited the “Başkent Ankara” exhibition, which welcomes visitors at the CSO Ada Ankara upper floor Foyer Area. Evaluating the exhibition, Ersoy drew attention to the ongoing efforts within the scope of Ankara being selected as the “Turkish World Tourism Capital.”
“As you know, Ankara was chosen as the Turkish World Tourism Capital by the Organization of Turkic States in 2026. In this context, our Ministry of Culture and Tourism, together with local administrations, is carrying out a series of events. As part of the Culture Road Festival, we have adapted the Art Meydan painting event, which is an important activity of the Ankara Culture Road Festival, to the Tourism Capital events. In this context, this exhibition features 24 artworks by 22 artists. These paintings were created in 2025,” said Ersoy.
Promotion Through Art, Memory Through Culture on the Same Stage
Ersoy stated that the exhibition includes works depicting Ankara from various perspectives, including instantaneous images from past to present. He emphasized that the exhibition is important for both tourism promotion and for showcasing the level of art and culture in Ankara, with artists from many parts of Turkey participating.
“Especially, as you know, when you are chosen as the Turkish World Tourism Capital, one of our most important goals is not only to bring that selected country to a certain point with culture and art, but also to promote it in terms of tourism among Turkic states,” Ersoy added.
Pointing out that the painting exhibition depicting Ankara serves both purposes, Ersoy concluded his remarks by saying, “You both carry out a cultural activity and, looking at the subjects and contents of the paintings here, we introduce all Turkic states well through art.”
Ankara Takes the Stage as the Turkish World Tourism Capital
Designated as the “Turkish World Tourism Capital” for 2026 by the Organization of Turkic States, Ankara is gaining international prominence through culture and art-focused events carried out under this title.
Under the coordination of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, these programs are making Ankara, with its historical heritage and cultural richness, more visible in the Turkic world.
Art Meydan Project Brings Art to Public Spaces
The “Başkent Ankara” exhibition consists of works created within the framework of the Art Meydan Project, implemented as part of the Turkey Culture Road Festivals.
