Four Injured in Sariyer Shantytown Fire in Istanbul
Istanbul, March 20 – Four individuals, including a mother and her two children, were injured early Thursday morning when a fire broke out in two shantytowns in the Sariyer district of Istanbul. The blaze, which originated in one shantytown for an unknown reason, quickly spread to an adjacent dwelling.
The incident occurred on Kuşburnu Çıkmazı Street in Büyükdere Neighborhood. Fire, police, and health teams were dispatched to the scene following the alarm. Due to the steep and narrow streets, emergency crews encountered significant challenges in accessing and combating the fire.
Rescue Efforts and Injuries
The mother and her two children, who were trapped inside their home, were rescued with the assistance of police officers and local residents. All four injured individuals were transported to a hospital by ambulance. Additionally, two other people affected by smoke inhalation received immediate medical attention at the scene in waiting ambulances.
The fire, which engulfed both shantytowns, was brought under control and extinguished after approximately two hours of intensive efforts by firefighters.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation. The incident highlights the risks associated with shantytown dwellings and the difficulties emergency services face in densely populated areas with challenging terrain.
