Elderly in Ankara Seyranbağları Nursing Home Share Bayram Excitement with Visitors
Ankara, March 20 – Residents of the Ankara Seyranbağları Nursing Home, affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Services, celebrated the joy of Bayram with their fellow residents and visiting relatives. The celebrations took place on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr (Ramazan Bayramı), bringing smiles and emotional moments to the elderly.
During the Bayram festivities, residents exchanged greetings with their visiting families and other residents. Some also connected with their loved ones through phone calls, bridging distances during this special time. The nursing home, officially known as the Ankara Seyranbağları Nursing Home Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Center, became a hub of warm interactions and shared memories.
Emotional Reunions and Reflections on Past Bayrams
Hüseyin Işık, a resident whose grandchildren came to visit for Bayram, expressed his deep emotion upon seeing his daughter and grandchildren. He recounted how, in past Bayrams, children would visit door-to-door to kiss the hands of elders as a sign of respect. Today, he noted, his grandchildren came directly to the nursing home to celebrate with him, a heartwarming continuation of tradition.
Gizem Çalışkan, who visited her father at the nursing home for Bayram, shared that this was their first stop for the holiday. “We came to visit my father and also to greet the other grandfathers and grandmothers here,” she stated. “My father also caught up with his grandchildren. Today, Bayram has a special significance, and he was very happy.”
Memories of Childhood Bayrams
Doğruer Kubilay, a resident for eight years, emphasized the special place Bayram holds in his heart, describing it as a time for peace, health, and togetherness. He noted the bittersweet reality of celebrating with friends at the nursing home while also remembering those who have passed away or are unwell.
Kezban Sarıgül, another resident, fondly recalled her childhood Bayrams. “New shoes would be bought and placed at the head of my bed,” she reminisced. “Baklavas and oily breads were made and baked in neighborhood ovens, then eaten as a family. There were entertainments like carousels and Ferris wheels. But today’s Bayrams are modern Bayrams; people don’t visit each other, or if they do, they quickly escape to holiday resorts for a few days.”
Hüseyin Kılıç, the elderly representative at Seyranbağları Nursing Home, also expressed nostalgia for old Bayrams, noting that residents were exchanging greetings from early morning.
