Anti-NATO Platform Established in Ankara Ahead of 2026 Summit

An Anti-NATO Platform was officially established in Ankara yesterday, April 6, 2026, ahead of the NATO Summit scheduled to take place in the city in 2026. The platform’s formation was announced to the public at a press conference held at the headquarters of the Revolutionary Party.

Opposition to the NATO Summit and Global War Policies

In a statement issued by the platform’s constituent organizations, strong opposition was expressed to the NATO Summit planned for July 7-8, 2026, in Ankara. The statement argued that the alliance is an integral part of global war policies, asserting that NATO has historically been an imperialist military alliance and continues to fulfill this role today.

The declaration highlighted the increasing number of wars and regional conflicts worldwide, emphasizing that these processes disproportionately affect the working class and laborers. It was also contended that in a period of deepening economic crises, public resources are being allocated to military expenditures instead of societal needs. In this context, the 6 billion lira budget allocated for the construction of an airport in Ankara Etimesgut for the NATO Summit was also criticized.

Historical Context and Criticisms of NATO’s Interventions

The platform also touched upon the establishment of NATO, recalling that it was founded within the framework of international balances formed after the Second World War. The statement claimed that the alliance has carried out military interventions in various geographies throughout its history, leading to severe human consequences.

The declaration also addressed Turkey’s role within NATO, stating that the country is an active member of the alliance and acts within this framework in regional developments.

Call to Action and Future Activities

At the conclusion of its statement, the platform called upon workers, laborers, and youth to participate in actions to be organized against the NATO Summit. Slogans such as “We do not want a NATO meeting in Ankara” and “Disband NATO, close imperialist bases” were prominently featured.

The Anti-NATO Platform announced that it will continue its activities through various events and actions in the upcoming period.
