Istanbul, Turkey – An operation led by the Istanbul Police Department’s Organized Crime Control Branch has resulted in the apprehension of 30 suspects and the subsequent arrest of 22 individuals on charges related to organized crime. The operation, which primarily focused on activities in Fatih district and across Istanbul, expanded to include simultaneous raids in Kocaeli, Izmir, and Erzincan.
Details of the Operation and Arrests
The suspects were taken into custody following an extensive investigation coordinated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities successfully identified the identities and addresses of members of the crime organization, allegedly led by N.E.
On April 7, simultaneous operations were carried out at pre-determined addresses in Istanbul, Kocaeli, Izmir, and Erzincan. Initial raids led to the capture of 28 suspects, and law enforcement officers seized three unlicensed pistols during searches at these locations. Subsequently, two additional suspects were apprehended as the investigation continued.
After completing their procedures at the police department, the 30 suspects underwent health checks before being transferred to the courthouse. Out of the 30 individuals brought before the court, 22 were formally arrested and remanded to custody by the presiding judge. The remaining eight suspects were released under judicial control provisions.
Crackdown on Organized Crime
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by Turkish law enforcement to dismantle organized crime groups operating within the country. The coordinated nature of the raids across multiple provinces highlights the reach and complexity of such criminal networks.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the specific nature of the crimes committed by the organization or the identities of the arrested individuals beyond the initial N.E. reference. However, the successful execution of the operation and the significant number of arrests are expected to disrupt the group’s activities.
The Istanbul Police Department remains committed to combating organized crime and ensuring public safety through proactive investigations and inter-provincial cooperation.
