Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts to preserve and promote Ankara Castle and its surroundings for the future. As part of these initiatives, the Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Urban History, Promotion, and Tourism has moved to establish a “Gastronomy Center” in the area, following the completion of restoration and reinforcement works at Ankara Castle.

Historic Properties Reimagined as Gastronomy Hub

Three registered historical residential properties located at the intersection of Kale, Kireçli, Berrak, and Doyran streets were combined and rebuilt in accordance with traditional street patterns and their original character. This comprehensive project involved meticulous restoration work, including the renewal of wooden joinery using traditional craftsmanship and the repair of deteriorated joints in stone walls. Furthermore, facade decorations were meticulously recreated by master artisans, staying true to their authentic details.

Preserving Heritage, Fostering Economic Growth

The roof coverings were also meticulously re-applied using materials and techniques appropriate to the period. The project not only aims to protect historical structures but also seeks to enhance the social and economic vibrancy of the region. The newly designed Gastronomy Center, re-envisioned with a gastronomic function, will offer versatile use, supported by courtyards, terraces, and open seating areas.

Promoting Ankara’s Culinary Culture

The Gastronomy Center, which will begin operating within the scope of this project, aims to introduce Ankara’s culinary culture, local, and authentic flavors to both domestic and international tourists. This initiative is expected to contribute to the cultural heritage and socio-economic vitality of the Ulus region, while also providing Ankara Castle visitors with a unique historical experience.

A Vision for Sustainable Tourism

By transforming these historical properties into a vibrant Gastronomy Center, the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality is not only preserving architectural heritage but also creating a new focal point for tourism. This strategic move is anticipated to attract more visitors to the region, offering them an immersive experience that combines history, culture, and local cuisine. The project underscores a commitment to sustainable tourism development, ensuring that the economic benefits are intertwined with the preservation of Ankara’s rich past.
