Ankara, April 12 – The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has issued a statement regarding allegations of embezzlement within judicial escrow offices, confirming that an indictment has been filed against a court clerk. The statement also emphasized that certain news reports circulating about judicial escrow offices do not reflect the truth.
Court Clerk Indicted for Embezzlement
According to information provided by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, O.Ç., a court clerk assigned to the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau, was found to have misappropriated a total of 501,860 Turkish Liras, 350 US Dollars, and 60 British Pounds. These funds, received from law enforcement units, were not delivered to the Ankara Judicial Escrow Office or deposited into a bank account.
Public Loss Recovered, Legal Process Continues
Following the discovery of the incident, the suspect repaid the entire amount during the investigation phase, thus compensating for the public loss. Despite this, a legal process for the crime of embezzlement was initiated as part of the ongoing investigation.
Indictment Filed for Serial Embezzlement
The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that an indictment, dated March 4, 2026, was prepared against the suspect. The indictment seeks punishment under Articles 247/1, 43/1, and 248/2-1 of the Turkish Penal Code for the crime of “serial embezzlement.” With the acceptance of the indictment, a public lawsuit has been filed at the Ankara High Criminal Court, and the trial is currently underway.
Clarification on Judicial Escrow Office Reports
The statement also addressed various news reports in some media outlets concerning judicial escrow offices, asserting that these reports do not reflect the truth. The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that this clarification was issued to inform the public accurately.
