Ankara, April 23 – High-altitude areas of Ankara’s Nallıhan district experienced significant snowfall on Thursday, turning the landscape white. The snowfall, which began in the morning, followed heavy rains in the region.
Snow Blankets Döğmeci Village
The Döğmeci village, situated in the Nallıhan district, was particularly affected by the snow. Residents woke up to a winter wonderland as the precipitation, which started as rain, transitioned into heavy snowfall. The snow depth reached up to 10 centimeters in some parts of the village, creating picturesque scenes.
Süleyman Çiftçi, the headman of Döğmeci village, shared his observations on the weather conditions. “Snowfall began in our village in the morning hours. Although its intensity has decreased, light snowfall continues,” Çiftçi stated. He also highlighted the village’s remote location, approximately 40 kilometers from the district center, expressing hope that the roads would remain open despite the ongoing snow.
Impact on Local Life and Infrastructure
The sudden change in weather conditions, from rain to snow, has brought both beauty and potential challenges to the local community. While the snow-covered landscape is visually striking, concerns remain about road accessibility and the impact on daily life for the villagers.
Authorities are monitoring the situation, especially given the village’s distance from the main district center. No immediate reports of significant disruptions or closures have been made, but residents are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on weather advisories.
Broader Weather Context in Ankara
This snowfall in Nallıhan’s high altitudes is part of a broader pattern of varied weather conditions experienced across Ankara. While the city center might be experiencing milder spring weather, its elevated districts often encounter more extreme conditions, including late-season snowfalls.
The event underscores the diverse climate within the Ankara province, where geographical variations lead to distinct weather patterns in different areas. Residents in affected regions are accustomed to such variations and typically take necessary precautions.
This early spring snowfall provides a unique contrast to the general warming trends expected for this time of year, reminding residents of the unpredictable nature of seasonal transitions in the region.
