Two Fugitives Apprehended in Sarıyer, Istanbul: One with a 27-Year Sentence
Istanbul, April 24 – Police teams in Sarıyer, Istanbul, apprehended two fugitives during checks. One of the individuals was sought with a 27-year and 2-month finalized prison sentence, while the other had a 2-year finalized sentence. The suspect with the longer sentence, wanted for murder and other crimes, was found to have escaped from prison in 2018. A non-licensed handgun was seized from this individual. Both suspects were arrested and sent to prison.
Details of the Arrests
According to information obtained, on April 21, around 12:00 PM, Sarıyer Public Order Bureau teams conducted checks in Cumhuriyet Mahallesi, Sarıyer. During these checks, Çağrı G. and Ziya Z. were stopped on suspicion, and their General Information Scan (GBT) queries were performed. It was determined that Çağrı G. was wanted for a 2-year finalized prison sentence for the crime of ‘purchasing, carrying, or possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition.’
Murder Suspect Escaped in 2018
The GBT query for Ziya Z. revealed that he was wanted for a total of 27 years and 2 months of finalized prison sentences for crimes including ‘intentional killing, disturbing the peace and tranquility of individuals, purchasing, carrying, or possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and intentional injury.’ Furthermore, it was discovered that Ziya Z. had escaped from an open prison in 2018, after serving 10 years in prison for a murder charge.
During a search of Ziya Z., one unlicensed handgun was found and confiscated. An investigation into the incident has been initiated. Following their procedures at the police station, the two fugitive suspects were referred to the courthouse and subsequently arrested by the court, then sent to prison. It was revealed that Ziya Z. had 10 criminal records, while Çağrı G. had 20 criminal records.
