‘The Birth of the Republic’ Exhibition Inaugurated in Keçiören, Ankara
Ankara, April 26 – The Keçiören Municipality, in cooperation with the Russian Federation Ankara Embassy, hosted a significant cultural and artistic event with the opening of the painting exhibition titled ‘The Birth of the Republic Through Lansere’s Eyes’. The exhibition, held at the Estergon Turkish Cultural Center, offers visitors a unique artistic perspective on the founding years of the Turkish Republic.
The opening ceremony was attended by Keçiören Deputy Mayor Dr. Atila Zorlu, academics, diplomats, and numerous guests. Speakers at the event emphasized the historical and cultural importance of the exhibition.
A Struggle Won Under Difficult Conditions
In his opening speech, Deputy Mayor Dr. Atila Zorlu highlighted the challenges faced during the establishment of the Turkish Republic, stressing that the National Struggle was won despite severe hardships. He mentioned the ‘Tekâlif-i Milliye’ (National Obligations) orders as a crucial turning point in this process, stating that the exhibition would contribute to a better understanding of this historical period. Dr. Zorlu also expressed his belief that the event would strengthen friendly relations between the two countries.
Ankara: Central to Republican History
Prof. Dr. Necdet Aysal, Director of the Ankara Studies Research and Application Center, underscored Ankara’s critical role in the history of the Republic. He noted that the process from the beginning of the National Struggle to the proclamation of the Republic unfolded with Ankara at its center. Prof. Aysal added that the artworks in the exhibition visually reflect this period.
Evgeni Bahrevski, Attaché of the Russian Federation Ankara Embassy, extended his gratitude to those who contributed to the exhibition’s preparation, emphasizing the value of narrating an important segment of Turkish history through art.
History and Art Combined
Following the speeches, the exhibition, which features works by Russian painter Yevgeni Lansere depicting Ankara in 1922, was officially opened. The paintings, reflecting the social and political atmosphere of the 1920s, provided visitors with both an artistic and historical experience. The exhibition, offering a different perspective on the founding process of the Republic, illuminated Ankara’s past and took participants on a journey through time.
