Ankara, April 26 – The Çankaya Kent Konseyi (Çankaya City Council) Women’s Council hosted a comprehensive seminar titled “Violence Starting with a Message” at the Çankaya Municipality Mustafa Kemal Gürbüz Conference Hall. The event, held yesterday evening, delved into the multifaceted issues of digital violence, online harassment, and persistent stalking.

Understanding the Invisible Forms of Digital Violence

The seminar focused on the often-unseen forms of violence that manifest in the digital realm, exploring their profound effects on individuals and the intricate legal aspects involved. The discussion aimed to raise awareness about the pervasive nature of digital threats and provide actionable insights into combating them.

Legal Framework and Practical Applications

Attorney Tülay Çelikyürek, President of the Çankaya Kent Konseyi Women’s Council, facilitated the event. During the seminar, Attorney Cemre Arı from the Ankara Bar Association’s Gelincik Center elucidated the legal framework surrounding digital violence and persistent stalking, offering valuable perspectives to the attendees.

Furthermore, an expert from the General Directorate of Security’s Unit for Combating Domestic Violence shared crucial information regarding on-the-ground applications and the process for reporting such incidents. This provided attendees with practical knowledge on how to seek help and navigate the official channels in cases of digital violence.

The Significance of the ‘Silent Help Signal’

A significant portion of the program was dedicated to explaining the importance of the “Silent Help Signal,” an internationally recognized gesture designed to allow individuals to silently and discreetly request help in emergency situations. The widespread adoption of this signal was emphasized as a vital tool for personal safety.

To further bolster awareness and provide resources, informational brochures prepared by the Çankaya Kent Konseyi Women’s Council were distributed to all participants. These brochures contained essential information on how to identify, prevent, and report digital violence, reinforcing the council’s commitment to empowering individuals.

Officials from the Çankaya Kent Konseyi Women’s Council underscored the increasing prevalence of digital violence. They reiterated their ongoing commitment to raising awareness in this critical area and strengthening community solidarity to collectively address and combat these evolving forms of aggression.

Continued Efforts in Combating Digital Violence

The council emphasized that such initiatives are crucial in a world where digital interactions are an integral part of daily life. They pledged to continue their efforts in educating the public and advocating for stronger protective measures against digital violence, ensuring that individuals feel safe and supported online.
