Storm in Marmara: Sea Bus Services Canceled

Istanbul, May 3 – Istanbul and Bursa Sea Bus services have been canceled today due to adverse weather conditions. The cancellations follow a severe storm warning issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) for the Marmara region, forecasting wind speeds of up to 80 km/h.

The first announcement came from Istanbul Sea Buses (IDO), which declared the cancellation of all outer line services scheduled for today. Subsequently, Bursa Sea Buses (BUDO) also announced the cancellation of six of its services due to the same adverse weather conditions.

Detailed Cancellations by BUDO

According to an announcement on BUDO’s official website, the following services will not be operated:

  • 08:00 and 09:30 Bursa (Mudanya) – Istanbul (Kabataş)
  • 08:00 and 10:30 Istanbul (Kabataş) – Bursa (Mudanya)
  • 09:30 Bursa (Mudanya) – Armutlu (İhlas)
  • 10:00 Armutlu (İhlas) – Istanbul (Kabataş)

Authorities have urged citizens to monitor official channels for further updates and announcements regarding sea bus services and weather conditions. The cancellations are a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers in light of the severe weather forecast.

Impact on Travel and Public Advisory

The widespread cancellations are expected to affect thousands of commuters and travelers planning to use sea bus services between Istanbul and Bursa. Passengers are advised to seek alternative transportation methods and to stay informed through official news sources and transportation company websites.

The Meteoroloji General Directorate’s warning highlights the potential dangers of the storm, emphasizing the need for caution and adherence to official advisories. As of the current time, no further cancellations have been announced, but the situation remains under close observation.

This event underscores the importance of meteorological warnings and the proactive measures taken by transportation authorities to prioritize public safety during severe weather phenomena. The cancellations are a direct response to the predicted high wind speeds and rough sea conditions in the Marmara Sea.

Citizens are reminded to exercise caution, especially those living in coastal areas, and to secure any loose objects that could be affected by strong winds. The duration of the storm and potential further disruptions to services will depend on the evolving weather patterns in the region.

Local authorities and transportation companies continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as they become available. Travelers are encouraged to check the latest schedules before planning their journeys.
