Istanbul Police Bust Counterfeit Operation Ahead of Eid al-Adha
Istanbul, May 23 – Teams from the Istanbul Financial Crimes Department conducted an operation aimed at preventing fraud involving counterfeit money during Eid al-Adha shopping. The operation resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of counterfeit currency and gold, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
Details of the Operation
The operation, which took place at a specified address in Fatih, uncovered a sophisticated counterfeiting ring. Authorities acted on intelligence regarding potential fraudulent activities, particularly with the upcoming holiday period, where an increase in transactions could lead to the circulation of fake currency.
During the raid, law enforcement officers discovered:
- 660,800 US dollars in counterfeit banknotes
- 71,180 euros in counterfeit banknotes
- 21 kilograms of counterfeit gold
- 6,000 euro watermarks, used in the production of fake euros
- 16 kilograms of sheet metal, utilized in the manufacturing of counterfeit gold
- 5,000 gold packaging materials
- 1 gold cutting and pressing machine
- 1 gram gold mold
The two suspects apprehended during the operation were taken into custody and transported to the police headquarters for further questioning and processing.

The Istanbul Police Department highlighted the importance of such operations, especially before major holidays like Eid al-Adha, when commercial activity intensifies. The goal is to safeguard citizens and businesses from financial losses due to counterfeit money and goods.
