As Istanbul residents prepare to celebrate Eid al-Adha, the historic Eminönü district has become a focal point for holiday shopping. The area, renowned for its vibrant markets and scenic waterfront, experienced a noticeable surge in both local and international visitors. Drone footage captured the bustling scenes across Eminönü Square and its surroundings, highlighting the pre-holiday rush.

Eminönü: A Hub of Pre-Eid al-Adha Activity

Families and individuals planning to spend the nine-day Eid al-Adha holiday in Istanbul flocked to Eminönü for their festive purchases. The district, a popular destination for its historical landmarks and vibrant marketplace, buzzed with energy. The Mısır Çarşısı (Spice Bazaar) and its adjacent shops were particularly crowded, with shoppers eager to buy traditional sweets, Turkish delight, nuts, and chocolates. Stalls offering these holiday staples saw continuous activity, reflecting the festive spirit.

Visitors and Locals Soak in the Atmosphere

Beyond shopping, many took advantage of the sunny weather to relax by the waterfront, savoring roasted chestnuts and corn. Ferah Börekçi, a visitor from Antalya, shared her experience: “We come from Antalya for Eid. Every time we visit, we make sure to stop by here. We did our shopping, and it was lovely. We bought gifts for the children, household necessities, and Eid sweets and Turkish delight. The arcades seemed closed, so it was a bit quieter in those areas. I wish for peace, tranquility, and a happy Eid for everyone in my country.”

Merchants Reflect on Changing Times

Despite the current activity, some local merchants expressed a longing for past Eid celebrations. Hüseyin Yavuzer, a shopkeeper, remarked, “We really miss the old Eids. The joy and spirit of the old Eids are gone. Even the street is empty; when Eid approached, we used to sell nuts in bulk. Now, that’s not the case, which you can attribute to people’s purchasing power or the economy. First and foremost, I wish for healthy, happy, and peaceful Eids. May those returning to their hometowns arrive safely. I wish for nothing else, a happy Eid to all.”

Aerial Views Capture the Festive Rush

The drone footage provided a unique perspective of Eminönü, showcasing the convergence of history, commerce, and festive preparations. The aerial shots emphasized the density of shoppers and the vibrant tapestry of activity that characterizes the district during significant holidays like Eid al-Adha.

As the holiday approaches, Eminönü continues to serve as a vital center for cultural and commercial exchange, embodying the enduring traditions of Istanbul’s residents.
