Ankara, Turkey – Elderly residents at the Demetevler Fatma Üçer Nursing Home in Ankara shared the joy of Eid al-Adha with each other and with visiting relatives and guests. The nursing home organized a special Eid al-Adha celebration program, bringing together residents, their families, and other well-wishers.
A Decade of Love in the Nursing Home
Among those celebrating were Sabiha and Turap Sönmez, a couple who met and married at the nursing home approximately 10 years ago. Sabiha Sönmez recounted her journey to the nursing home after losing her son and daughter years ago, living alone in different cities before finding a home at Demetevler.
“I was sitting in the gazebo here. While chatting, he wanted to take me for pita bread. Then he proposed,” Sönmez shared, describing how she met her husband, Turap Sönmez. She expressed her happiness with their life together, stating, “My husband is a very good person. If I ask for something, he never hesitates. He wouldn’t eat it himself but would feed it to me. Every day is Eid for me since I have my husband.”
A Lively Eid for Residents
Turap Sönmez noted that the residents are never left alone at the nursing home, especially during Eid, with many visitors coming to celebrate. He explained that Eids are always lively at the nursing home. “Students come, people from associations come. We interact with people, we form friendships. And when my wife is with me, every day feels like Eid,” he added.
