Istanbul Governorship Issues Warning on Roadside Fire Prevention
Istanbul Governorship, under the signature of Governor Davut Gül, has dispatched a letter to several key institutions, including the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, 39 district governorships and municipalities, the Provincial Police Department, the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure 1st Regional Directorate, the General Directorate of Highways 1st Regional Directorate, the TCDD 1st Regional Directorate, the Istanbul Regional Directorate of Forestry, the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks 1st Regional Directorate. The letter highlights the increasing air temperatures with the onset of the summer season.
Preventing Fires Caused by Human and Vehicle Activity
The primary aim of this initiative is to prevent fires that may arise from intensified human and vehicle activity, whether intentionally or due to negligence. The letter emphasizes the critical importance of clearing dry grass along urban and intercity roadsides. These areas are prone to numerous fires caused by cigarette butts discarded from moving vehicles, vehicle exhausts, and sparks emanating from train tracks.
Call for Action from Responsible Institutions
In line with this directive, responsible institutions and organizations are mandated to ensure the thorough cleaning of all flammable materials and dry grass, particularly along main arteries and other roadsides. The letter explicitly warns against any shortcomings in the implementation of these measures, stressing the need for diligent execution.
The Istanbul Governorship’s proactive approach underscores the growing concern over environmental safety and public well-being as climatic conditions become more conducive to fire outbreaks. This comprehensive warning aims to mobilize all relevant bodies to take immediate and effective action to mitigate the risk of roadside fires across the city.
