Operation in Çatalca: 42 Snakes Confiscated
According to a written statement released by the Nature Conservation and National Parks Directorate, the operation was initiated following a tip-off. “Our teams, in collaboration with law enforcement, carried out an inspection at a house in Çatalca after receiving a report. During the checks, 18 python snakes, 21 Egyptian snakes, and 3 king snakes were identified, all being kept without the necessary permits,” the statement detailed.
All 42 snakes were immediately seized by the authorities and placed under protection. The individual responsible for their illegal possession faces an administrative monetary penalty. The Directorate emphasized its commitment to continuing strict inspections against the unauthorized keeping of wild animals. “We will steadfastly continue our inspections targeting the unauthorized possession of wild animals,” the statement concluded.
Illegal Wildlife Possession: A Growing Concern
The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in combating the illegal trade and possession of exotic animals. Such operations are crucial in protecting wildlife and ensuring that individuals adhere to strict regulations concerning animal welfare and conservation. The seized snakes will now be transferred to appropriate facilities where they can receive proper care and live in suitable environments.
This operation serves as a reminder of the legal consequences for those who choose to disregard wildlife protection laws, reinforcing the message that illegal animal possession will not be tolerated. The authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities related to unauthorized animal keeping to help curb this illicit practice.
