Tekin Pehlivan, who reported the incident to the police, stated, “We had come to the coast for camping and picnicking in the morning. While sitting by the sea, we noticed a suspicious object washed ashore further down. Initially, we thought it might be a missile or torpedo-like ordnance. We immediately informed the jandarma teams. They arrived at the scene shortly, cordoned off the area with a security strip, and moved us away. Later, bomb disposal teams arrived. After examining the suspicious object, they secured and took it away.”
Necip İlhan, a meatball vendor on the beach, added, “Children went swimming in the sea and noticed a suspicious object on the shore. The authorities were then notified. Jandarma and coast guard teams came to the area upon the report. The teams conducted the necessary investigations and then took the object away.”
Following the initial assessment, the military ordnance was taken into custody by jandarma. It will undergo a thorough examination at a criminal laboratory to determine its type, origin, and potential hazards. The authorities have not yet released specific details regarding the nature of the ordnance.
