ISTANBUL, June 29 – A shocking murder in Istanbul’s Küçükçekmece district, where a man disguised as a postman killed phone shop owner Çetin Aktürk, has culminated in the arrest of the suspect, Berzan K. He was apprehended at Esenler Bus Terminal while attempting to flee to Greece.

Details of the Horrific Incident Emerge

The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 24, on Maslak Çeşme Street in Küçükçekmece. According to information obtained, the suspect, posing as a postman, entered a phone shop and, under the pretext of having Çetin Aktürk (48) sign a fake summons, carried out an armed attack. Aktürk was fatally shot by bullets fired from the assailant’s weapon. The suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot.

Investigation Reveals Premeditated Actions

Teams from the Homicide Bureau of the Public Order Branch Directorate launched an investigation, revealing new details about the case. It was determined that the suspect, Berzan K., had been staying in a nearby hotel close to the phone shop’s address and had conducted reconnaissance in the area. Berzan K. reportedly prepared a fake summons, went to the phone shop, asked for Çetin Aktürk’s ID, confirmed his identity, and then repeatedly fired his weapon.

Suspect Apprehended Thanks to Alert Police Officer

It was established that the suspect fled the scene on foot, changed his clothes in a green area, and left his weapon there. Furthermore, it was learned that he had arranged with an organizer to flee to Greece via Edirne. Berzan K. arrived at Esenler Bus Terminal to travel to Edirne, where he was spotted by an off-duty police officer on annual leave. Following the tip-off, teams quickly moved in and apprehended the suspect at the bus terminal.

Revenge Motive Alleged

In his statement to the police, suspect Berzan K. reportedly claimed that Çetin Aktürk was the mastermind behind the murder of Görkem Bedir in 2024, who was killed in an armed attack. Berzan K. stated that he committed the murder to avenge Görkem Bedir. It was also revealed that one of the vehicles used in the Görkem Bedir murder belonged to Çetin Aktürk’s sister.

Two Suspects Detained

In connection with the incident, Osman U., who had visited suspect Berzan K. at the hotel where he was staying for reconnaissance purposes on the same street as the phone shop, was also taken into custody. Both Berzan K. and Osman U. were transferred to the courthouse after their procedures at the police station were completed.

This incident has once again highlighted the issue of revenge killings and the meticulous planning that can precede such crimes in Istanbul. Authorities continue to investigate the full scope of the connections between the two murders.
