1.7 Million TL Robbery Caught on Camera in Istanbul

Daylight Robbery in Güngören: 1.7 Million TL Snatched

Istanbul, February 16 – A brazen daylight robbery occurred on Wednesday, January 21, at approximately 3:20 PM, on Fatih Street in the Mehmet Nesih Özmen neighborhood of Güngören, Istanbul. The incident, involving the snatching of 1.7 million Turkish Lira, was captured by nearby security cameras.

Victim Withdraws Large Sum from Bank

According to Habertürk reporter Mustafa Şekeroğlu, the victim, identified as K.E., had just withdrawn 1.7 million TL from a bank branch. As K.E. was handing the money to another individual, A.A., three male assailants rapidly approached them.

Suspects Flee with Money in Seconds

The suspects swiftly snatched the money and fled the scene on foot within seconds. The entire incident was recorded by surveillance cameras in the vicinity.

Security Footage Reveals the Crime

The security footage shows the suspects trailing the victims after they left the bank, waiting for an opportune moment. They then forcibly grabbed the bag filled with money from A.A.’s hands. Despite A.A.’s resistance, the three suspects managed to escape in a white vehicle with the stolen money.

Three Suspects with 37 Criminal Records Apprehended

Following the incident, the Robbery and Pickpocketing Bureau of the Public Security Branch Directorate launched a comprehensive investigation, utilizing extensive camera footage and field work. Through technical analysis, the perpetrators of the snatching were identified one by one.

The identified suspects, 40-year-old D.Ç. with 20 prior criminal records, 34-year-old O.Ç. with 9 records, and 32-year-old M.D. with 8 records, were apprehended in a coordinated operation. In total, the three suspects had 37 criminal records.

Suspects Transferred to Judicial Authorities

After processing at the Robbery and Pickpocketing Bureau of the Public Security Branch Directorate, the suspects were transferred to the judicial authorities for further proceedings.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat street crime and the increasing reliance on surveillance technology in solving such cases in Istanbul.
