1,120 Detained in Istanbul Police Operation, Including 591 Wanted Suspects

Istanbul, Turkey – A comprehensive two-phase police operation dubbed “Huzur Istanbul” (Peaceful Istanbul) led to the detention of 1,120 individuals, including 591 suspects wanted for various offenses. The operation, coordinated by the Public Order Branch Directorate, was carried out yesterday, December 12, 2025.

Extensive Deployment and Two-Phase Operation

The first phase of the operation, conducted between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM, involved fixed checkpoint applications at 209 locations with the participation of 1,438 personnel. This phase received aerial support from a police helicopter and five boats from the Sea Port Branch Directorate, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the city.

The second phase, which took place from 10:00 PM to 11:59 PM, focused on inspections of public places. A total of 1,340 personnel were deployed during this period to ensure compliance and order in various establishments.

Massive Identity Checks and Detentions

During the operation, a staggering 384,753 individuals underwent General Information Gathering (GBT) inquiries. These extensive checks were instrumental in identifying individuals with outstanding warrants or other legal issues. As a direct result of these inquiries and on-site inspections, 1,120 people were taken into custody. Among those detained, 591 were identified as suspects wanted for various crimes, highlighting the effectiveness of the targeted approach.

Significant Seizures of Illegal Items

The police operation also yielded substantial seizures of illegal items. Authorities confiscated 12 unlicensed pistols, 4 rifles, and 11 blank-firing pistols. Additionally, 114 rounds of ammunition were seized. In the fight against drug-related offenses, 781.22 grams of narcotics and 102 narcotic pills were recovered. Furthermore, 16,295 Turkish Lira, believed to have been obtained from drug trafficking, were also seized during the raids.

Business Inspections and Administrative Actions

In addition to individual checks, the teams inspected 784 public businesses. These inspections resulted in administrative actions being taken against 11 foreign nationals and 43 other individuals, addressing various infractions related to business operations and legal compliance.

Traffic Controls and Fines

Traffic enforcement was another key component of the “Huzur Istanbul” operation. Traffic police conducted controls on 49,068 vehicles and 1,640 motorcycles. Consequently, actions were taken against 2,973 vehicles and motorcycles, and 55 drivers. A total of 15 vehicles were impounded. The traffic enforcement efforts resulted in the issuance of fines totaling 2,416,151 Turkish Lira, underscoring the strict adherence to traffic regulations during the operation.
