Adıyaman, a city bearing the traces of ancient civilizations, with its historical, cultural, and social richness, met with visitors at the 6th Adıyaman Promotion Days held in Istanbul. The event, which took place at the Istanbul Atatürk Airport National Garden Event Area, began with a magnificent opening ceremony.
Adıyaman: A Mosaic of Tolerance and Brotherhood
Adıyaman, regarded as one of the strongest examples of tolerance and brotherhood in Anatolia, attracted intense interest in Istanbul, a city that serves as a mosaic of Turkey. The city, which stands out with its unique nature where “yellow and blue embrace,” its thousands of years of history, and rich cultural heritage, offered visitors a true cultural journey.
High-Level Participation at the Opening Ceremony
The opening program of the promotion days saw high-level participation, including Vice President of the Republic of Turkey Cevdet Yılmaz, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Adıyaman Governor Osman Varol, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security Ahmet Aydın, AK Party Adıyaman Deputies Resul Kurt, Mustafa Alkayış, and Hüseyin Özhan, Adıyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere, Adıyaman University Rector Mehmet Keleş, Esenler Mayor Mehmet Tevfik Göksu, Sultangazi Mayor Abdurrahman Dursun, Adıyaman Associations Federation President Hüseyin Sevinçtekin, Adıyamanlılar Foundation President Hasan Hüseyin Göksu, along with numerous protocol members, civil society organization representatives, and citizens.
“City of Coexistence Culture” Highlighted
In the opening speeches, it was emphasized that Adıyaman is a city where different cultures and beliefs have lived in peace for centuries. Throughout the promotion days, this multilayered social structure was reflected to visitors through exhibited cultural activities and stage performances. Adıyaman’s tolerance-based social structure was among the most prominent messages of the event.
Solidarity and Recovery After the Earthquake
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, in his speech, drew attention to the reality of earthquakes and emphasized the vital importance of urban transformation and safe housing production. Yılmaz stated that permanent solutions are being produced against earthquake risk with social housing projects. The promotion days revealed that Adıyaman, in its post-earthquake recovery process, is not only healing its wounds but also keeping its spirit of unity and solidarity alive.
Harfane and Folk Dances Attract Great Interest
Following the opening program, the Adıyaman Harfane Team and folk dance groups took the stage, receiving great applause from the participants. Local melodies and folk dances brought the living aspects of Adıyaman culture to Istanbul. At the stands set up in the event area, Adıyaman’s unique handicrafts, local products, and traditional delicacies were presented to visitors. The stands displaying handmade products and local flavors attracted intense interest throughout the promotion days.
A Homeland Reunion for Adıyaman Residents in Exile
The four-day promotion days also created a meeting and loyalty ground for Adıyaman residents living in Istanbul. Throughout the events, fellow townspeople relieved their longing for their hometown, and Adıyaman’s cultural heritage was introduced to new generations.
