AJet Connects Ankara and Bucharest with New Direct Flights
Ankara, Turkey, April 3, 2026 – AJet, a prominent Turkish airline, has officially commenced direct flights between Ankara and Bucharest, the capital of Romania. The inaugural flight took place on April 2nd, establishing a new air bridge between the two capital cities. This development was announced by Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of AJet’s Board of Directors, who highlighted the significance of this expansion for Ankara’s international air connectivity.
Strengthening Ankara’s International Air Travel Position
Ahmet Bolat emphasized that AJet, already the airline with the most international flights from Ankara, continues to bolster the capital’s position in global air travel. “AJet, which continues to strengthen our capital’s position in international air transportation, is now building an air bridge between Ankara and Bucharest, the capital of Romania,” Bolat stated. The new route will feature three reciprocal flights per week, enhancing travel options and fostering stronger ties between Turkey and Romania.
Rapid Growth: 106 Destinations in Two Years
The launch of the Ankara-Bucharest route marks AJet’s 106th destination within its flight network, a remarkable achievement given that the airline is celebrating its second anniversary. Bolat underscored this milestone as a clear indicator of AJet’s rapid growth trajectory since its first flight on March 31, 2024. “This development is a strong indicator of the rapid growth momentum AJet has achieved,” he added.
Significant Expansion and Performance
AJet, recognized as Turkey’s youngest airline, has demonstrated robust performance and significantly increased its competitive edge in both domestic and international air transport markets. Bolat detailed the airline’s impressive expansion over the past two years: “In a short period of two years, we have opened 28 new routes in 18 countries across a wide geographical area, extending from Europe to the Middle East, and from Turkish Republics to North Africa.”
During this two-year period, AJet has served a total of 42.5 million passengers. The airline has ambitious plans to continue its growth, aiming to transport 25 million passengers by the end of 2026.
Fleet Modernization and Future Outlook
AJet is also heavily investing in modernizing its fleet. Bolat reported that in the eight months since August 2025, AJet has incorporated 18 factory-new aircraft into its fleet. Looking ahead, the airline plans to add 46 new aircraft, including Boeing 737-8 MAX and Airbus NEO types, throughout 2026. “By the end of the year, approximately 80 percent of our fleet will consist of new-generation aircraft,” Bolat confirmed, signaling a commitment to efficiency and passenger comfort.
The new Ankara-Bucharest flights are expected to contribute to the economic and cultural exchange between Turkey and Romania, further solidifying AJet’s role as a key player in regional and international aviation.
