Ankara, June 12 – The dam occupancy rate in Ankara, the capital city, has reached 49.20%, a notable increase of 20.20% compared to last year’s figures. This positive development comes after concerns about drought and water scarcity in the previous year.

Significant Improvement in Dam Levels

According to data from the Ankara Water and Sewerage Administration (ASKİ), the dams supplying water to the city, with a total capacity of 1 billion 454 million 666 thousand cubic meters, recorded an occupancy rate of 49.20% as of June 10 this year. This is a substantial improvement from June 10, 2025, when the occupancy stood at 29% with 421 million 862 thousand cubic meters of water.

The amount of water in the dams has increased to 715 million 704 thousand cubic meters this year, compared to 421 million 862 thousand cubic meters in the same period last year. Consequently, the active usable water amount also rose from 232 million 905 thousand cubic meters last year to 563 million 997 thousand cubic meters this year.

Increased Water Supply for a Growing Population

In line with the rising population, Ankara’s daily water supply has also seen an increase. Last year, the city was supplied with 1 million 260 thousand 661 cubic meters of water daily. This year, the daily supply has risen to 1 million 483 thousand 412 cubic meters.

Monthly Water Inflow to Dams

The monthly inflow of water to the dams has shown a significant increase compared to the previous year. The first quarter of last year saw the following inflows:

  • January: 23 million 485 thousand 595 cubic meters
  • February: 15 million 901 thousand 776 cubic meters
  • March: 24 million 446 thousand 143 cubic meters
  • April: 38 million 344 thousand 766 cubic meters
  • May: 34 million 821 thousand 344 cubic meters
  • June: 5 million 653 thousand 167 cubic meters

This year’s inflows for the same period are considerably higher:

  • January: 55 million 762 thousand 949 cubic meters
  • February: 236 million 236 thousand 797 cubic meters
  • March: 113 million 51 thousand 740 cubic meters
  • April: 159 million 902 thousand 957 cubic meters
  • May: 134 million 56 thousand 51 cubic meters
  • June: 21 million 182 thousand 49 cubic meters

Individual Dam Levels

Some dams, such as Kesikköprü and Kargalı, have reached full capacity with 100% occupancy. Other dams show varying levels:

  • Türkşerefli Dam: 10.14%
  • Peçenek Dam: 30.41%

The general occupancy levels for the dams in Ankara are as follows:

Dam Name Total Volume (M3) Water Amount (M3) Water Percentage
Akyar Dam 52,445,000 44,109,000 84.11%
Çamlıdere Dam 1,108,276,000 486,128,000 43.86%
