Ankara, March 13 – Gendarmerie teams in Ankara, in a meticulously planned operation, successfully uncovered a counterfeit license plate manufacturing and distribution ring, seizing 900 fake plates and the equipment used in their production. Two individuals were apprehended in connection with the illicit activity.

Operation Targets Counterfeit Plate Manufacturers in Keçiören

The Provincial Gendarmerie Command and Keçiören District Gendarmerie Command teams initiated surveillance on suspects believed to be producing and selling counterfeit license plates in the Keçiören district. The investigation culminated in a raid on an address in the Ayvalı neighborhood.

During the operation, authorities discovered a significant cache of counterfeit materials. This included 500 already printed counterfeit license plates, along with 400 blank plates that were in the process of being manufactured. The scale of the operation indicates a sophisticated setup for large-scale production.

Seizure of Advanced Manufacturing Equipment

In addition to the plates, gendarmerie teams confiscated a range of specialized equipment essential for the production of fake license plates. This included presses and ventilation machines, which are crucial for the manufacturing process. Furthermore, metal letter and number molds, vital for imprinting the alphanumeric sequences on the plates, were also seized.

The raid also yielded a substantial quantity of raw materials used in the production. Authorities found 300 liters of paint and 100 liters of thinner, both critical components in the finishing process of license plates. The discovery of such large volumes of materials suggests a well-established and active counterfeit operation.

Two Suspects Taken into Custody

Following the successful raid and the discovery of the counterfeit operation, two suspects were immediately taken into custody. The individuals are currently undergoing questioning as part of the ongoing investigation into their involvement in the production and distribution of the fake license plates. Further details regarding their identities and potential connections to broader criminal networks are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.

The seizure of these counterfeit plates and equipment is a significant blow to illegal activities that can have serious implications for public safety and security. Counterfeit license plates are often used in various criminal enterprises, including vehicle theft, hit-and-run incidents, and other illicit activities, making their removal from circulation a priority for law enforcement. The gendarmerie’s swift action in this case underscores their commitment to combating such crimes and ensuring the safety of citizens.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are expected to provide more information as new details become available. The operation highlights the continuous efforts of Turkish law enforcement agencies to crack down on organized crime and maintain order within the community.
