Ankara Prepares for 2026 NATO Summit: Hotels at 90% Occupancy
Ankara, April 27 – As Ankara prepares to host the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit on July 7-8, 2026, the city’s accommodation sector is bustling with activity. The ‘2026 NATO Heads of State and Government Summit’ will place Ankara firmly in the global spotlight, prompting high-segment hotels to accelerate their reservation and operational preparations.
NATO-Standard Security Protocols Implemented
During the summit, hotels will host heads of state and high-level delegations, necessitating the implementation of NATO-standard security protocols. Preparations primarily involve modernizing security systems, establishing special protocol areas, and providing extensive staff training. Gökhan Esengil, Chairman of the Tourism Hotel Managers Association’s Central Anatolia Regional Executive Board, noted that this process differs significantly from typical tourism movements.
“As the summit dates approach, occupancy rates in our high-segment hotels in Ankara have reached the 90% mark,” Esengil stated. He emphasized that due to the nature of the organization, security measures are being elevated to the highest level. “In such organizations, our hotels transcend their role as mere accommodation providers, transforming into controlled diplomatic zones. Multi-layered security applications are activated at entrances and exits, and some hotels are entirely or partially allocated to delegations on a floor-by-floor basis. Coordination with state security units has been maximized.”
Economic Boost and Employment Opportunities
The summit is expected to generate substantial added value for Ankara’s economy, extending beyond accommodation to logistics, food and beverage, and other service sectors. Hotels are planning for additional employment to meet the increased demand, with a strong focus on foreign language and protocol management training for personnel.
Esengil highlighted that Ankara’s hotels, benefiting from their extensive experience with bureaucracy, provide services with highly qualified staff. Special training programs for the summit are ongoing, ensuring personnel are proficient in protocol rules, crisis management, foreign languages, and service standards. External resource utilization is also being increased to support operations.
“The economic impacts of the summit will not be limited to the accommodation sector,” Esengil added. “Transportation, car rentals, restaurants, event organizers, and technical service providers will directly benefit from this activity. The high spending capacity of the incoming profile will provide a significant short-term boost to the city’s economy. This summit will also strengthen Ankara’s brand value by demonstrating its capacity to host international organizations.”
