Akçay revealed that ongoing investments amount to approximately $500 million, with planned investments valued at $600 million, bringing the total cost to $1.1 billion. This substantial financial commitment reflects the scale and importance of these infrastructure developments for Ankara’s long-term sustainability.

Master Plan to Combat Water Scarcity and Uncontrolled Urbanization

Mayor Mansur Yavaş, addressing the attendees, emphasized that upon taking office, the first step taken to combat water scarcity and uncontrolled urbanization was the preparation of a comprehensive master plan. “Because in such a rapidly growing Ankara, with also uncontrolled urbanization, we wanted to see what would happen in the next fifty years. And we tendered the master plan and shared the final report with the State Hydraulic Works. ASKİ also started its work in this direction,” stated Mayor Yavaş.

The master plan serves as a strategic roadmap, guiding ASKİ’s initiatives to ensure that Ankara’s water infrastructure can adequately support its projected growth and mitigate the challenges of urbanization. This proactive approach aims to prevent future water crises and promote sustainable development throughout the metropolitan area.

Long-Term Vision for a Growing City

Ankara, as a rapidly expanding metropolitan area, faces increasing demands on its resources. The investments in water infrastructure are not merely about meeting current needs but are part of a forward-thinking strategy to secure the city’s future. By upgrading treatment plants, expanding transmission lines, and improving wastewater management, the municipality is laying the groundwork for a resilient and thriving urban environment.

The emphasis on a master plan highlights a commitment to data-driven decision-making and collaborative efforts with national agencies like the State Hydraulic Works. This integrated approach is crucial for managing complex urban systems and ensuring that infrastructure development is aligned with long-term environmental and social goals.

The completion and initiation of these projects mark a significant milestone in Ankara’s development, promising a more secure and sustainable future for its residents.
