Ankara, Turkey – A jeweler operating in the Sincan district of Ankara has allegedly vanished with gold entrusted to him by numerous customers, sparking a major controversy. Victims claim that approximately 50 million Turkish Lira worth of jewelry has gone missing, prompting them to initiate legal action.
Jeweler A.Ö. Vanishes After Collecting Gold
According to allegations, the jeweler, identified as A.Ö., received gold from customers for various purposes, including melting down or investing in different financial instruments. He is now reported to have disappeared with the collected jewelry.
The 40-year-old jeweler is said to have stalled his customers for an extended period, providing various excuses when they sought to retrieve their gold. Over time, A.Ö. allegedly accumulated a substantial amount of jewelry before vanishing without a trace.
Victims Gather Outside Closed Shop
Aggrieved customers gathered in front of the jeweler’s shop, which has been closed for several days. They assert that the jeweler has absconded with an estimated 50 million Turkish Lira in gold. A note displayed on the shop window, stating it was closed due to “personal health issues,” is believed by the victims to be false. They are now appealing to authorities for assistance.
Yıldız Gök, one of the victims, stated that she had given the jeweler 12 quarter-gold coins before the recent holiday, but was unable to receive the equivalent gold in return. She reported being repeatedly given different dates for collection. Upon arriving at the shop, she found it closed and has been unable to reach the jeweler since.
“He Was a Trusted Name”
Şahin Gök, another victim, emphasized that the jeweler was a well-known and trusted figure in the community, and that the incident has caused significant hardship for them. The Gök family has initiated legal proceedings and is awaiting clarification on the matter.
Local shopkeepers also confirmed that they have been unable to contact A.Ö. Köksal Çetin, a local merchant who has known A.Ö. for many years, mentioned that many people have been trying to reach him recently. Çetin noted that there are rumors in the area that the jeweler disappeared due to significant debts, but no definitive information about his whereabouts is available.
It has been learned that the victims have filed complaints, and the legal process to investigate the allegations is ongoing.
