The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) continues its efforts to preserve and promote Ankara Castle and its surroundings, which bear the traces of many civilizations. Following the completion of restoration and strengthening works at Ankara Castle, the ABB Department of Urban History, Promotion, and Tourism initiated a project to establish a “Gastronomy Center” in the region.

Historical Houses Rebuilt According to Original Structure

Three registered residential buildings located at the intersection of Kale, Kireçli, Berrak, and Doyran Streets were combined and rebuilt in accordance with their original structure and traditional street texture. As part of the project, issues in the load-bearing systems were resolved. Wooden joinery was renewed with traditional craftsmanship. Deteriorated joints in stone walls were repaired, and facade ornaments were re-processed by masters, adhering to original details. Roof coverings were also reapplied using materials and techniques appropriate to the period.

Gastronomy Center to Offer Local and Authentic Flavors

The project not only aims to protect historical structures but also to increase the social and economic vitality of the region. The Gastronomy Center, reconfigured with a gastronomic function, is designed to offer versatile use with its courtyard, terrace, and outdoor seating areas. It will introduce Ankara’s rich culinary culture, local, and authentic flavors to both local and foreign tourists.

This project is expected to contribute to the cultural heritage and socio-economic vibrancy of the Ulus region, offering visitors to Ankara Castle an experience full of history and life.

Aims to Boost Tourism and Local Economy

The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality emphasizes that this project is a significant step towards boosting tourism and supporting the local economy. By highlighting Ankara’s unique gastronomic identity, the center is poised to become a new attraction for visitors, encouraging longer stays and increased spending in the area. Local businesses, especially those involved in traditional crafts and local produce, are anticipated to benefit directly from the increased footfall and interest generated by the Gastronomy Center.

Future Plans for Ankara Castle

The municipality plans to continue its efforts to revitalize the Ankara Castle area with similar projects in the future. These initiatives will focus on preserving the historical essence of the castle while integrating modern amenities that cater to the needs of both residents and tourists. The ultimate goal is to establish Ankara Castle as a vibrant cultural and culinary hub, safeguarding its heritage for future generations.
