During his opening speech, AÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar underscored the significance of the ceremony as a platform where science, labor, and success are celebrated. He also drew attention to the volatile geopolitical landscape, stating, “It cannot be ignored that there is a great circle of fire in the north, south, and east of Turkey.”
Prof. Dr. Ünüvar specifically addressed the ongoing tensions and conflicts in various regions. “Unfortunately, the recent tensions and conflicts in the Israel, America, Iran, Russia, Ukraine line, especially in Gaza, once again clearly show us that war has no winner. The humanitarian drama in Gaza is not just a regional issue but a global one, and it has indeed become so,” he asserted.
The Rector stressed the collective responsibility of academics and intellectuals to uphold peace, justice, and human dignity. “As representatives of science, reason, and conscience, we must stand by a stance that prioritizes the right to life, justice, and human dignity,” he said, adding that true progress is only possible in an environment of peace.

This year’s ceremony held additional significance as it marked the 80th anniversary of Ankara University’s official establishment. “This 80th year is not just a period of time for a university. It is actually the story of a nation’s ideal of development through science, a civilization vision guided by reason and knowledge,” the Rector concluded.
