Businessman Sought for Double Murder in Kahramanmaraş Apprehended in Istanbul
Istanbul, March 1 – Ahmet Duran Balsuyu, a businessman from Kahramanmaraş, who was wanted for a double murder, has been apprehended in Istanbul during an operation conducted by the Kahramanmaraş Provincial Police Department. Balsuyu was taken into custody on March 1, 2026, at approximately 04:30 AM.
The Kahramanmaraş 1st High Criminal Court had issued an arrest warrant for Balsuyu, who had been on the run since the incident. Following a meticulous and prolonged investigation by the Kahramanmaraş Provincial Police Department, Balsuyu’s hiding place in Istanbul was identified. After his apprehension, the suspect was immediately brought to Kahramanmaraş by air on the same day.
According to a statement released by the Kahramanmaraş Police Department on its X account, Balsuyu was being sought in connection with a murder incident that occurred on June 8, 2024, in the Göllühöyük neighborhood of Türkoğlu district. The suspect was brought before the court, where he was formally arrested and subsequently transferred to the Türkoğlu L Type Closed Penal Institution. Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the incident will be thoroughly clarified.
What Happened?
On June 8, 2024, a dispute erupted between neighbors over a land disagreement in the Türkoğlu district of Kahramanmaraş. Allegedly, Ahmet Duran Balsuyu shot his neighbor Mikdat Gökçe and Ergün Tilki, a farm worker who intervened in the argument. Tilki tragically died at the scene, causing great sorrow in the community. Gökçe, who was severely injured, succumbed to his injuries after a 35-day struggle for life.
Following the incident, Balsuyu managed to evade capture for an extended period, disappearing without a trace. The Kahramanmaraş Provincial Police Department, through detailed intelligence gathering and coordinated operations, successfully located the suspect in Istanbul. With this operation, the suspect, who had been sought for 20 months, was finally apprehended.
