Çankaya Municipality to Launch Urban Garden Training in January 2026

The Çankaya Municipality, known for its 15-year commitment to urban garden education, is gearing up for the Spring 2026 season. The training program, which aims to connect city residents with agriculture, will commence on January 14-15. Applications are now open for those eager to participate in these hands-on sessions.

Comprehensive Agricultural Education Offered

The program, organized by the Çankaya Municipality Parks and Gardens Directorate, will cover a wide array of topics essential for aspiring urban farmers. Participants will gain knowledge in fundamental agricultural practices, as well as specific techniques for growing fruits and vegetables. The training will be conducted at the Mutlukent and Ata urban gardens, providing practical experience in a natural setting.

Key Topics and Practical Applications

The curriculum is designed to be both theoretical and practical, encompassing subjects such as the importance of local seeds, rainwater harvesting, pruning, grafting techniques, and composting. These diverse topics ensure a holistic understanding of sustainable urban gardening.

Training Schedule and Locations

The training sessions will kick off at the Mutlukent Urban Garden on Wednesday, January 14, and at the Ata Urban Garden on Thursday, January 15. The programs are scheduled to run until the end of May, offering an extended period for learning and engagement.

Mutlukent Urban Garden Program

At the Mutlukent Urban Garden, sessions will take place every Wednesday from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. Key areas of focus will include fruit tree pruning, the significance of local seeds, managing vegetable diseases, irrigation systems, rainwater harvesting, and cultivating various vegetable types. The program at Mutlukent will conclude on May 6 with a specialized training on home composting and vermicomposting.

Ata Urban Garden Program

The Ata Urban Garden will host its training sessions every Thursday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. This program will begin with practical applications of pruning and grafting. Subsequent topics will cover garden setup, beneficial insects, terrarium creation, and general vegetable cultivation. The Ata Urban Garden training will wrap up on May 21.
