Children Become ‘Environmental Inspectors’ in Ankara’s Saraçoğlu District

Ankara, June 7 – The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change is hosting a series of stage shows, workshops, and educational activities in Ankara’s Saraçoğlu District to foster environmental awareness among children, as part of Türkiye Environmental Week. The events, running for three days, began yesterday, June 6, and continue today and tomorrow.

The program, held under the theme ‘The World is Entrusted to Us,’ features inflatable play areas and workshops focused on environmental protection, Zero Waste practices, and recycling. Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, shared images of children participating in the workshops on his social media account, stating, “The joy of our children filled our nation’s gardens during Türkiye Environmental Week. In Ankara, our environmental inspectors gathered in Saraçoğlu District, one of the symbolic places of our capital.”

Children’s Voices: Protecting Nature and the ‘Zero Waste’ Initiative

Children participating in the ‘Environmental Inspector’ project shared their thoughts on Zero Waste, nature conservation, and play areas. Asya Yıldırım, one of the young participants, emphasized the importance of the event: “This event is celebrated for us not to harm the environment and to warn those who do. I don’t throw trash on the ground, and I warn those who do. I also don’t pick flowers, and I warn those who do. We must protect nature because it is important for our future. The world is entrusted to us.”

Ayliz İnceler, another participant, expressed her excitement: “I came here to see, explore, have fun, and learn how to better protect our nature. For example, I pick up trash thrown on the ground, and I don’t throw plastic or bags into the environment. I came here and now I’m an environmental inspector. We are having fun, learning, and it’s very enjoyable.”

Engaging Activities and Future Generations

The activities in Saraçoğlu, which started yesterday, June 6, are designed to engage children through interactive learning. The workshops aim to instill a sense of responsibility towards the environment from a young age, aligning with the broader goals of the Türkiye Environmental Week. The Ministry’s initiative highlights the critical role of children in safeguarding the planet and promoting sustainable practices.

The event’s focus on practical applications of environmental protection, such as Zero Waste and recycling, provides children with tangible ways to contribute to a healthier planet. By transforming learning into an enjoyable experience, the program encourages active participation and fosters a deeper connection with nature among the younger generation.

The success of the events in Saraçoğlu underscores the importance of community engagement and educational initiatives in promoting environmental stewardship. As the activities conclude tomorrow, the Ministry hopes that the lessons learned and the enthusiasm generated will continue to resonate with the children, empowering them to become lifelong advocates for environmental protection.
