Five-Car Pileup on Istanbul’s D-100 Highway Leaves Four Injured, Drunk Driver Arrested
Istanbul, May 28 – A chain-reaction collision involving five vehicles on the D-100 highway in Avcılar, Istanbul, resulted in four injuries, one of them serious, late last night. The incident occurred when a speeding and allegedly intoxicated driver crashed into a stationary vehicle that had broken down on the road. The driver, identified as İ.K., was subsequently arrested after testing positive for alcohol.
The accident unfolded when a car broke down on the D-100 highway. Three occupants of the disabled vehicle had exited to assess the situation when a car driven by İ.K., reportedly weaving through traffic at high speed, collided with their vehicle from behind. The force of the impact caused a chain reaction, involving three other cars that were unable to stop, turning the highway into a scene of chaos.
Emergency Response and Injuries
Following the crash, numerous police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. After initial interventions by paramedics, four injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals. One of the victims is reported to be in critical condition, with their life still in danger. Fortunately, the three individuals who had exited the broken-down vehicle before the collision sustained only minor scratches.
Drunk Driver Apprehended
The driver responsible for the accident, İ.K., was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.12 per mille. Witnesses reported that İ.K. exhibited aggressive behavior towards those around him after the crash. Police officers apprehended and handcuffed the driver, taking him into custody.
