Ankara, January 13 – The Directorate of Communications’ Directorate of Combating Disinformation (DMM) has issued a stern warning to citizens in Ankara regarding a new wave of fraudulent activity. The DMM stated that claims of individuals, dressed in public institution uniforms, distributing cash in exchange for signatures are a scam.
DMM Addresses Fraudulent Cash Distribution Claims
In a statement released via social media, the DMM addressed reports circulating in various media outlets and social media platforms. The statement explicitly warned against individuals mimicking public institution attire and offering financial aid door-to-door or by hand in exchange for signatures.
“Claims circulating in some press and social media channels, regarding individuals impersonating public institution personnel and distributing financial aid by hand in exchange for signatures, are fraudulent attempts,” the DMM emphasized in its social media post.
No Cash Aid is Distributed Door-to-Door
The DMM clarified that no monetary social assistance or support payments are ever made door-to-door or by hand in exchange for signatures. Such processes are conducted through official, transparent, and registered systems by the relevant institutions.
“No monetary social assistance or support payments are made door-to-door or by hand in exchange for signatures. These processes are carried out transparently, recorded, and through official systems by the relevant institutions,” the statement further detailed.
Public Urged to Exercise Caution and Report Suspicious Activities
Citizens are strongly advised to remain vigilant and sensitive to these and similar fraudulent attempts. In case of any suspicious situations, the DMM urged the public to immediately contact the 112 Emergency Call Center.
“It is strongly requested that our citizens be careful and sensitive against these and similar fraudulent attempts, and in suspicious situations, immediately contact the 112 Emergency Call Center,” the DMM concluded.
This warning comes amidst growing concerns over various scam tactics targeting vulnerable citizens. The DMM’s proactive stance aims to protect the public from falling victim to such deceptive practices.
The DMM’s intervention highlights the importance of official channels for all government-related transactions and assistance programs. Citizens are reminded that legitimate aid programs will always follow established procedures and will not involve unsolicited cash distributions at their doorstep.
This incident underscores the continuous efforts of the DMM to combat disinformation and fraudulent activities that can harm citizens and undermine public trust in official institutions. The public is encouraged to verify any claims of aid or support through official government websites or by directly contacting the relevant institutions.
The DMM continues to monitor social media and other platforms for such misleading information and fraudulent schemes, working to ensure public safety and awareness.
