Istanbul, June 14 – A driver in Kağıthane, Istanbul, was apprehended by police after a video surfaced showing him making his dog run behind his motorcycle. The incident, which took place in the Seyrantepe neighborhood, led to a fine of 8,678 Turkish Lira under the Animal Protection Law.
Police Identify and Apprehend Driver
The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 6, in Kağıthane’s Seyrantepe neighborhood. A video circulating online showed a person driving a motorcycle with a dog tied to it, forcing the animal to run along the street. Following an investigation into the footage, police identified the motorcycle’s license plate and determined the driver to be Talha D. (25).
Kağıthane Patrol Teams Command police launched an operation and apprehended Talha D. in the Sultan Selim neighborhood. The dog was taken into protective custody, and veterinarians from the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry conducted examinations.
Veterinary Check Finds No Ill-Treatment
During the veterinary checks, it was determined that the dog had not been subjected to ill-treatment. Despite this finding, the driver faced legal consequences for his actions.
Video Footage Captures the Incident
Footage captured by a mobile phone camera showed Talha D. driving the motorcycle with his dog running behind it for several meters. In the video, as Talha D. moves along the road, another street dog can be seen following him and his dog.
Driver Fined and Released
Talha D. was issued an administrative fine of 8,678 Turkish Lira for violating the Animal Protection Law. Following procedures at the police station, the suspect was released by the prosecutor’s office.
