Drone-Supported ‘Hashed Area’ Inspection in Istanbul: 23 Drivers Fined

Istanbul, January 18 – Drone-supported ‘Hashed Area Violation’ inspections were carried out at several points in Istanbul yesterday. The two-hour operation led to fines totaling 44,861 Turkish Liras issued to 23 drivers.

Traffic Enforcement Teams Conduct Inspections

Teams from the Istanbul Police Department’s Traffic Inspection Branch conducted ‘Hashed Area Violation’ inspections at various locations across the city. Specific areas targeted included the Sarıyer Büyükdere Street TEM junction, Ümraniye, the Şile Highway, and the entrance to the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge.

Police teams utilized drones to detect drivers who illegally entered or used ‘hashed areas’ – sections of the road marked with diagonal lines, typically indicating areas where vehicles should not stop or enter. This aerial surveillance allowed for efficient identification of violations that might be difficult to spot from ground level.

Significant Fines Issued in Two-Hour Operation

During the two-hour inspection period, a total of 23 drivers were penalized. In Sarıyer, 11 drivers were issued fines amounting to 29,909 Turkish Liras. Concurrently, in Ümraniye, 12 drivers received fines totaling 14,952 Turkish Liras. The combined total of fines issued during this concentrated enforcement effort reached 44,861 Turkish Liras.

The use of drones in traffic enforcement is part of a broader strategy by Istanbul authorities to improve road safety and ensure adherence to traffic regulations. ‘Hashed areas’ are crucial for maintaining traffic flow, especially at intersections and busy junctions, by preventing vehicles from blocking critical zones.

Authorities emphasize that these inspections will continue to be conducted regularly to deter drivers from committing such violations and to enhance overall traffic discipline in the metropolis. The aim is to reduce congestion and prevent accidents caused by improper use of road space.

The successful implementation of drone technology in these operations highlights a modern approach to urban traffic management, allowing for more comprehensive surveillance and immediate action against offenders.
