Ebru artist Funda Köz, known for her contemporary interpretation of the ancient art of ebru, has opened her exhibition titled ‘In the Footsteps of Flow’ in Ankara. The exhibition, sponsored by Türk Telekom, is being held at the artist’s new gallery in Çankaya and has received significant acclaim from art lovers.

A Unique Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Curated by Meyçem Ezengin and organized by Artesman Kültür Sanat, the exhibition features Köz’s distinctive ebru works, which combine classical, modern, and realist approaches. Her pieces are notable for reflecting the aesthetics of water and the poetic nature of flow. Köz’s art highlights the invisible connection between the memory of water and the human inner world, transforming the flow of colors into a contemporary visual language.

Artist’s Perspective on Ebru Art

Speaking to Hürriyet Ankara about the exhibition, Funda Köz shared her insights: “For many years, I have participated in contemporary art fairs with my works. Viewers are still very surprised when they learn that my works are ebru. Many artists and academics have told me that I could give a different name to my work. However, as long as I remain faithful to all the materials that distinguish ebru art from other arts, the name of my work is ebru art. My works prove that there can be no limits in ebru art.”

Ankara’s Enthusiastic Reception

Köz also mentioned the selection of works on display: “In my exhibition, I have prepared a selection of works from my own collection, ranging from my first works during my student years to those created this year.” She noted the strong interest from Ankara residents, stating, “Ankara residents always love art and artists, and they are interested in innovations. They are sincere but also selective. They do not easily approve and accept. The participation in the exhibition exceeded our expectations.”

The artist expressed her enjoyment in engaging with visitors: “I try to explain the stories and development process of each work to our guests one by one and accompany them throughout their visit. I still enjoy seeing the expression of surprise on their faces.”

The exhibition continues to welcome visitors today.
